The challenges of good construction lighting
In a construction zone, effective lighting is essential, especially as this type of work often takes place at night for practical reasons. A good spotlight can make all the difference between a moderate risk and a dangerous situation.
First and foremost, light is essential to provide comfortable working conditions for employees. The lamps and projectors used must, of course, have an optimum coverage area, which can reach several thousand square meters on certain models such as the LUMAPHORE® 1500XLG.
But it's also important to choose construction lighting that imitates sunlight as closely as possible, for perfect color rendition at any time of day or night. This ensures visual comfort for workers and considerably reduces the risk of accidents, making them more efficient and stress-free.
On the other hand, it's worth opting for construction lighting equipped with an autonomous power source. A battery-powered floodlight, for example, allows you to work without problems in isolated, poorly-lit areas, such as road networks, which may not have an electricity supply. It's also a good way of guarding against the risk of power failure.
Last but not least, the quality of the construction lighting used must not be overlooked. It must be extremely robust to withstand this particular working environment, while guaranteeing a long service life. With an average lifespan of 50,000 hours, LEDs help you avoid any unpleasant surprises.

What power of lighting for the construction site?
Appropriate site lighting is essential in working environments where light levels are low. But how do you choose the right site lighting?
First of all, it's important toidentify the different areas to be illuminated: work areas and workstations, indoor and outdoor traffic zones, shaded areas, obstacles and hazards on site, escape routes or exits...
Next, you need to determine the right light output for the areas concerned.
To illuminate indoor and outdoor circulation paths for personnel, pedestrians or vehicles, a light source of 10 to 40 Lumens /m² is recommended.
To illuminate outdoor work areas such as scaffolding, ELC recommends 40 Lumens/m².
Finally, to illuminate work on outdoor machines, lighting with a minimum output of 100 Lumens/m² is recommended.
