Outdoor LED Lighting Power

What power for outdoor LED lighting?

Night construction sites, rescue areas, dark places, poor lighting conditions, to carry out certain work, powerful outdoor lighting and especially a LED construction site spotlight are undoubtedly necessary. The power of the device being a major criterion to be able to work in good conditions, ELC France gives you some hints to help you to choose the one you need.

The usefulness of LED site lighting

For certain construction sites that require an additional light source to compensate for poor lighting conditions during delicate work, finishing work or emergency interventions, effective lighting also ensures the safety of workers. Visual fatigue quickly sets in when lighting is poor, increasing the risk of errors and accidents. It is therefore essential tochoose the right equipment.

It can be more or less powerful reinforcements, but also single sources of lighting for the whole site or intervention.

What kind of LED lighting should I use?

The choice of LED spotlight depends essentially on your needs in terms of brightness. Should it be permanent? Supplementary? Does the outdoor lighting need to be powerful, or will it complement another device? At what height will it be installed? And while most site lighting is mains-operated, requiring a power supply or even a generator on a large site, some battery-powered lighting systems offer greater freedom of movement. As the creator of LUMAPHORE® lighting balloons, international manufacturer ELC offers innovative mobile lighting solutions for all types of worksite.

ELC manufactures powerful outdoor lighting

ELC, creator of the LUMAPHORE®, is an international manufacturer of innovative mobile lighting solutions for industrial maintenance sites, emergency response areas and other construction sites. From the powerful mobile lighting tower to the autonomous spotlight, each LED lighting device is robust, energy efficient and guarantees a powerful light intensity adapted to each condition of use. Leaving nothing to chance, ELC also offers a range of accessories to enhance the use of outdoor lighting equipment. From the ballast bags to keep the lighting towers safe, to the magnetic supports for portable devices, to the set of wheels that allows the mobility of the projector, everything is provided for an efficient and safe intervention.

Which lighting power should I choose?

To know which LED floodlight wattage to opt for, it's first essential to assess the lighting quality required for the area. This is measured in Lumens and can range from a few hundred Lumens to several thousand.

Although the watts are the power consumption of the conventional bulb, since LED came into the market, this power has become only significant in that a 20-watt LED floodlight, for example, will be able to provide as much light as a 200-watt halogen device.

Thus, everything depends on whether you want to light the work area directly or indirectly and the configuration of the place, but, in general, for a work area or intervention, the necessary power to take into account will depend on its extent:

  • For a work area between 10 and 15m², a 10 watt light is sufficient
  • Between 15 and 20m², 20 watts will be effective
  • For an area of work or intervention that varies between 25 and 30m², 30 watts will be necessary
  • 50 watts will illuminate a work area of approximately 400 m².

For large-scale projects, some powerful lighting systems are equipped with LED floodlights of more than 200 watts, such as the Quad Pod K65 mobile lighting tower that lit the Bouchemaine bridge near Angers, France.
