Another successful edition!
Once again this year, ELC-France was in partnership with DeserTours for its 27th edition of the famous 4L Trophy , which took place from February 14 to 24, 2024. Once again, laughter, sharing, mutual aid and good humor were the order of the day along the Trophists' route! And to accompany these beautiful moments of life, our LUMAPHORE® were on hand to provide all the participants with powerful, soft, high-performance lighting.
What is the 4L Trophy?
The 4L Trophy is a race organized by our partner DeserTours, which each year brings together over 2,000 participants under the age of 28, inviting them to set off on a journey from Spain to the dunes of southern Morocco, in their custom-built Renault 4Ls. Teams of one driver and one co-driver, equipped with road books and compasses, must cover almost 6,000 kilometers in twelve days!
After starting their race in Biarritz, France, the young drivers and co-drivers cross Spain and reach Morocco by sea, crossing it from all sides, from the entrance to the country to the gates of the Sahara. Finally, the Trophists cross the dunes to reach Marrakech, where the adventure comes to an end.
The main aim of the race? To raise funds for various associations that help the underprivileged:
Enfants du désert: a French association founded in 2005 by Laetitia Chevallier, whose main mission is to provide access to education for children in the Moroccan desert. Its projects and funding are based in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of southeastern Morocco, and are developed in close collaboration with local associations, local authorities and the Moroccan Delegation for National Education.
The French Red Cross: Since 2011, the 4L Trophy has also been involved with the French Red Cross, redistributing foodstuffs to French families in need. How does it work? Each rally crew is asked to send 10 kg of non-perishable foodstuffs to the departure village in the south of France.
In all, thanks to the 1,200 crews on the starting line, nearly 20,000 meals are served each year.
Cap Eco Solidaire: this association has been accompanying the race since 2019 and aims to combine solidarity and eco-citizenship within the events by opening waste collection points at each stage and financing water collection and recovery points, particularly in the province of Ifrane.
Eco-citizenship: Trophists are also invited to get involved in the eco-citizenship of the various landscapes they cross throughout their journey. To this end, they are accompanied by movements and associations such as the Green Brigade and its "zero cigarette butt" operation, which aims to limit the impact of the raid on the areas crossed, the SURFRIDER FOUNDATION MAROC which aims to educate and raise awareness among crews, but also to protect the environment, the coastline, beaches and oceans, and the Good Planet Foundation which invites participants to offset their CO2 emissions by financing projects on the foundation's website.
ELC, a DeserTour partner for over 10 years
Since 2012, we've been supporting DeserTour, organizer of the 4L Trophy, by providing them with LUMAPHORE® to provide light at all the points where the Trophy drivers pass through, to ensure their safety and enable them to work in optimal conditions (particularly when repairing the cars).
This year, we sent them 6 of our LUMAPHORE® products:
1 LUMAPHORE® 1000XL: with its 131,000 Lumens, it has been used to illuminate stage villages and vehicle repair areas, providing powerful lighting for as many people as possible, enabling them to work in good conditions.
This LUMAPHORE® features an ON/OFF button and a button for 180° or 360° illumination.
It also boasts excellent floor lighting thanks to its transparent lower bowl, allowing you to work underneath the unit while benefiting from its full lighting power.
3 LUMAPHORE® 300XL: a power of 45,800 Lumens which was used to light the common areas of the stage villages and the stage area for presentations of upcoming stages along the route.
This light is ideal for this type of situation, since its power and soft lighting won't dazzle anyone present.
Thanks to their high degree of protection (IP65 and IK10), they were protected from any intrusion of foreign bodies, including sand, throughout the stages!
2 LUMAPHORE® 600XL: 76,200 Lumens, to light up to 3,200m²- that's what this LUMAPHORE® offered all the crews throughout the stages!
The stage points could be seen even in the middle of the desert, thanks to our lighting, which accompanied the crews from the moment they set off into the Moroccan dunes!
Equipped with a transparent lower bowl, the LUMAPHORE® 600XL proved a real asset to the rally organizers, thanks to its compact, practical format.
